I’m a Slovenian-American with roots in Kamnik. For most of my life, it was just something in the background. Lately, I’ve felt the need to go back and understand it for real.

That led me to NK Kamnik, a fourth-tier football club in my hometown. It is not a big club, and that is the point. It is a group of players and people trying to keep something going for their town.

Then the clubhouse burned down.

Now they are rebuilding while fighting to avoid relegation. It is not a perfect story. It is uncertain, a little chaotic, and very real. That is why I am going.

I’m heading to Slovenia to document the club, the players, the coaches, and the town around them. I want to capture what it actually looks like to rebuild something from the ground up, and to reconnect with where I come from in the process.

This is not a finished production. I am building it as I go.
